故事发生在1975年，祸国殃民的十年动乱虽然已成强弩之末 ，却依然摧残着每个国人的人生。一度受到冲击的海滨医院胸外科专家罗秉真终于恢复工作，在医院革委会主任田刚的支持下，他得以继续进行心脏“新型瓣膜”的手术实验。田刚积极推动该手术的进行，但是工宣队负责人徐家茂开口方向 、闭口路线 ，对资产阶级出身的专家们有着天然且偏执的憎恶，时刻担心资产阶级占领无产阶级的战略要地。热爱唱歌的美丽女子苏兰被推入手术室接受治疗，然而一系列的突发状况却将这个女孩送往另一个世界。罗秉真首当其冲遭到了徐家茂的攻击和侮辱 。以此为开端，他的家人也受到了株连。 颟顸的运动，正对宝贵的知识型人才做最后的摧残……
