一个人烟稀少的殴洲小镇，平日连窃盗案都没有，竟然出现恐怖的连续杀人案件，小镇居民在一个月内陆续死亡，女警塔玛拉（伊莉丝蕾薇斯克 饰）从前的刑警搭档也是死者之一，让小镇的耳语不断。 而塔玛拉在查案的同时 ，发现受害者都会失神的喃喃念着“阿尔发 ，阿尔发…” ，让她不禁想起一直以来行为古怪的母亲莉亚（薇若妮卡费瑞儿 饰），因为莉亚在青少年时期曾与高中同学们一起玩游戏“解忧棋” ，可以引发一股神秘的复仇力量，但一次玩游戏时发生了火灾，同学们全都死亡，她是唯一的幸存者，但精神出状况 ，游戏也消失无踪 。 但现在似乎这股力量又在小镇漫延，塔玛拉面对母亲可能成为嫌犯，小镇镇民又接连死亡 ，要如何阻止这股取人性命的神秘力量？
