梁秀琴 17 岁时，随⽗亲梁铁林到齐齐哈尔市的扎龙⾃然保护区做临时⼯ ，负责养鹤 、驯鹤⼯作 。1983 年 ，她在那⾥负责饲养雏鹤 ，雏鹤成活率达到 100% 。因此 ，扎龙保护区的孵鹤、养鹤、驯鹤技术开始蜚声中外。1985 年，梁秀琴⾃费到东北林业⼤学野⽣动物系进修 ，因交不出学费 ，⽣活⼜难以为继 ， 她曾背着⽼师和同学 ，数次献⾎换来⼀些钱来维持学业。 梁秀琴结业后去盐城⾃然保护区⼯作，当时的鹤场，最好的建筑物就是⼀个废弃的哨所，上下两层，每层不⾜ 6 平⽅⽶ 。在这⾥，她认识了⼀起并肩⼯作的同志王君彦、段⽅和夏兰，梁秀琴也和王君彦有了⼀些朦胧的感情。 还没等他们的感情有些进展，梁秀琴就因为救⼀只受伤的鹤永远地离开了这 个世界——那时 ，梁秀琴才 23 岁 。
